WebYou're correct that WD-40 is not designed to clean controls. However, it does so quite well. The product is paraffin (wax) in a solvent carrier. The solvent cleans "stuff" off the element and electrical contacts and flushes that out of the control. This does require a substantial flow of the product, not just a drop from a Q-Tip.
